  "NACOC HANDS OVER $1.7 MILLION WORTH OF SEIZED GOLD TO GOLDBOD." The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has handed over 17 gold bars, valued at $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra. The gold bars were seized by officers of the upper East Command of the Paga Border Post from two Burkinabe nationals who were attempting to smuggle them out of the country. The two nationals have also been charged with gold offences relating to transportation and dealings in gold. Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, assured the management of GoldBod of the Ministry's continued support and backing for GoldBod's efforts to manage Ghana's gold resources. ARKURITINGA AYINE The Attorney General and Minister of  Justice, Dr Akuritinga Ayine, has directed the Economic and Organized Crime Office to investigate the 36 - page illegal mining report compiled by former Minister of  Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof  Kwabena Frimpong -Boateng. The report, which was reportedly submitted to the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo administration in 2021, implicated a number of people in the  then -government and political figures in the New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress. Oil funds for 'Big Push' will be efficiently used, Mahama tells PIAC. President John Dramani Mahama has assured members of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) that oil revenues earmarked for his proposed $10 billion "Big Push" Infrastructure initiative will be efficiently disbursed and managed. The President gave the assurance during a courtesy call by the PIAC members. Led by its Chairman, Mr Constantine K.M. CEDI'S surge marks the beginning of sustainable economic reset - Ato Forson Finance Minister Dr. Ato Forson has describe the recent appreciation of the Ghana Cedi as more than a currency recovery, calling it a signal of a sustainable economic reset. The Ghana Cedi has appreciated 16.7% in 2025. Dr. Forson said the currency's performance, crowned the "top-performing currency in April", and reflects a broader macroeconomic turnaround. "This marks a significant reversal from the 13.4% depreciation observed in the same period of 2024," he stated.  He attributed the gains to strong fiscal discipline and a strategic collaboration between the ministry of finance and the Bank of Ghana. How a hotel was designated as 1D1F and granted $4 million tax exemption By: Victoria Enyonam Adonu Date: August 21, 2023 SHARE:   The Le Meridien hotel project, which 4-mac Limited received US $ 4 m tax waiver in December 2022. In December 2022, Parliament granted a US$4 million tax waiver under the One District (1D1F), One Factory programme to 4-Mac Limited, a company that is building a hotel at Airport Residential in Accra.  The waiver is to cover import bills and other import-related taxes of the company. The company also received a five-year tax holiday. The parliamentary approval followed a request from the Ministry of Finance dated July 25, 2022. The ministry initially sought approval for almost US$6.4 million in import tax relief for the construction of the four-star, Le Meridien hotel.  The 160-room hotel is expected to open its doors to customers in 2025.
